The 2 certainties in life are NOT death and taxes (not everyone pays tax!) - but Death, Judgement, Heaven OR Hell.

I'm writing this post on Trinity Sunday 2026.

People often say we can be sure of 2 certainties in life - death and taxes. While death IS a certainty, not everyone pays tax. Some people do not earn enough, or are disabled and can't work, or have caring responsibilities. At this time, there is also much youth unemployment in the UK and these young people will not be paying taxes either.

The Catholic Church, as the only true religion, teaches that there are 4 certainties in life.

Death, Judgement, Heaven Or Hell. That's a very sobering thought.

We know death is going to happen to every living person, but no one knows the time or the place of death - this is known to God alone. One should definitely prepare for death.

At the moment of our death, we are judged immediately. If we led a life breaking the 10 Commandments and not being sorry or making amends, then our destiny is probably Hell. Some people just before dying can feel sorry and they say sorry to God for all the bad things they have done. Only God will know if that person really means it. In Catholic terms, if a person is not in a state of Grace at the time of death, they go to Hell, where it is eternal. Most people committing serious sins know deep down they are wrong.

Everyone has a duty to find out the Truth about life. If people find out that the Catholic Faith is the one True Faith, and refuse to become Catholic, they too will be judged. Many people on finding out that the Catholic religion is the true one, refuse to become Catholic, as they don't want to change a certain aspect of their lifestyle - for example, if they are living with someone who is not their husband or wife etc.

Children reach the age of reason at around the age of 7 - that is they can know right from wrong. Obviously children with mental disabilities, autism etc will not have the same capabilities as children who don't have disabilities. Again, only God will know what that child's capabilities are, at the moment of death. Yes - children are also judged if they die. If a child is baptised and dies before the age of 7, they go to Heaven. Once they reach the age of reason, usually around 7, they are deemed capable of knowing right from wrong. Babies and children who die unbaptised - if they die before 7, go to a place called "Limbo" - this is a place which is neither Heaven nor Hell.

Unrepentant sinners go directly to Hell and don't get out - ever.

Those who die in a state of Grace - either go straight to Heaven (if they were Saints), or they spend some tine in Purgatory - some can spend a long time in Purgatory, others a shorter time. It all depends on how much reparation they need to make, before entering Heaven. Purgatory is not a pleasant place - as its name suggests, it's a place of being purged of the sins  committed when they were alive (even though they repented of those sins before death). It's a bit like "doing time" in prison.

People on earth can and must pray for those in Purgatory - as the prayers help shorten the time. If the person goes to Heaven as a result of the prayers of someone on earth, that person in Heaven is able to help them with earthly problems.

It's possible to pray for someone thinking they are in Purgatory but in fact they are in Hell. The prayers aren't wasted, as they will help a different person instead.

Both Heaven and Hell are eternal and never-ending.

If you are reading this and are not Catholic, please study the teachings of the Catholic Church BEFORE the Second Vatican Council. And start to pray about it. Pray to be shown the Truth.

Sadly many Catholics end up in Hell, as they reject the teachings, and don't repent.
